Salesforce Inc. failed to wield a tech industry immunity law to block a lawsuit alleging it participated in a sex trafficking scheme with the now defunct classifieds site Backpage.com, but a federal judge still dismissed the underlying case.
Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act doesn’t apply to the software firm because the lawsuit from sex trafficking victims targeted Salesforce’s own conduct, not speech from third parties, US District Judge Jane Boyle ruled.
