A hacker's computer terminal displaying compromised cloud data, symbolizing the ShinyHunters cyberattack on the European Commission's AWS infrastructure.

The European Commission has confirmed a targeted cyberattack on its Europa.eu web platform resulting in a significant data breach. The notorious extortion group ShinyHunters claimed responsibility, stating they stole over 350GB of sensitive data—including databases, contracts, and mail server dumps—by compromising an AWS account. AWS clarified that its platform operated securely and the breach resulted from stolen credentials or misconfigurations. The Commission has contained the incident and is investigating the fallout.
