Salesforce, meanwhile, has completed $5m in carbon removal pre-purchase agreements with 19 suppliers.
The Microsoft deal with Indigo Carbon is said to cost between $60 and $80 per ton for the credits, making the deal worth up to $228m. The credits are linked to regenerative agriculture in the United States, covering actions from reducing tilling to using methods to improve soil carbon capture and water retention.
Speaking about the deal, Phillip Goodman, director of carbon removal at Microsoft, stated that: “Microsoft is excited by Indigo’s approach to regenerative agriculture that delivers measurable results through verified credits and payments to growers.”
