Amazon Web Services (AWS) has officially launched its "European Sovereign Cloud," a new infrastructure designed to operate independently of its US network to comply with strict European Union data privacy laws. Debuting with a region in Brandenburg, Germany, the service is physically and logically separated from other AWS regions, ensuring data stays within the EU. Amazon has committed €7.8 billion to the project through 2040 and announced immediate plans to expand the service with new Local Zones in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Portugal to support public sector and regulated industries.
