A large, illuminated Amazon Web Services (AWS) sign outside a corporate building, representing the cloud computing giant responding to unprecedented infrastructure disruptions in the Middle East.

In an unprecedented move, Amazon Web Services (AWS) is waiving an entire month's usage charges for customers affected by the March 1 Iranian drone strikes on its data centers in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. The physical attacks caused structural damage, disrupted power, and led to water damage from fire suppression, crippling numerous AWS services. Following concerns raised by industry experts that zeroing out the March bills would also wipe out critical Cost and Usage Report (CUR) data needed for compliance and security forensics, Amazon clarified that while usage data is filtered from billing reports to avoid charges, the underlying data remains fully accessible upon request. The incident marks the first time a major U.S. hyperscaler's infrastructure has been severely disrupted by active warfare.
