Five months after drone and missile strikes severely damaged AWS data centers in the UAE, Dubai banks are facing tens of millions of dollars in unexpected emergency response costs. To maintain business continuity, lenders have been forced to route critical cloud workloads to India and Ireland, temporarily bypassing strict local data sovereignty laws. The prolonged disruption to the AWS ME-Central-1 region has sparked frustration from the Central Bank of the UAE and raised serious questions about the Gulf's heavy reliance on US cloud hyperscalers for its core digital infrastructure.
