Amazon Web Services (AWS) is launching a massive new initiative, investing $1 billion to establish a dedicated Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) unit. Aimed at breaking through the bottleneck of enterprise AI adoption, AWS plans to deploy "thousands" of its own engineers into small, agile pods of five or six specialists. These pods will embed directly within customer organizations for intensive 45-day sprints, working alongside clients' internal business, security, and engineering teams to build and ship agentic AI systems. Pioneered by companies like Palantir and recently adopted via joint ventures by OpenAI and Anthropic, AWS is unique in completely self-funding this operation from its own balance sheet to accelerate deployment speed and leave clients fully self-sufficient.
