AUTOMATED ZIP CODE TERRITORY MANAGEMENT
OVERVIEW
A large retail distributor needed more precise territory management than Salesforce’s built-in solution allowed. The client required assignment by zip code, state, and region, with multiple levels of management oversight. We built a custom solution that enabled bulk updates and streamlined territory assignments, improving operational efficiency and accuracy.
THE CHALLENGE
Salesforce’s standard territory management functionality lacked the granularity needed for zip-code-level assignment and multi-tiered management. The client needed a system to efficiently manage thousands of accounts across thousands of zip codes while assigning territory managers, regional managers, and regions accurately. Manual updates were time-consuming and error-prone, creating inefficiencies in account management.
OUR SOLUTION
We developed a custom territory management system using Salesforce Apex classes, triggers, and a Visualforce page. Users can search and select up to 200 rows at a time, then bulk update territory managers, regional managers, and regions. The system also supports automatic territory assignment when new accounts are created, based on zip code. While built on older Salesforce technology, the solution provided the granularity and automation needed to manage complex, multi-tiered territories efficiently.
