MIGRATING AN AUTODESK ACCESS PLATFORM TO AWS
OVERVIEW
The team responsible for managing access to Autodesk software and projects within a multinational enterprise needed to migrate their existing system from Salesforce to AWS. The goal was to consolidate a fragmented infrastructure spread across multiple platforms into a single, centralized solution while reducing Salesforce licensing costs and giving the team greater ownership over the platform's infrastructure and codebase.
Fiduciary Tech analyzed the existing system, executed a full migration from Salesforce to AWS, and successfully decommissioned the Salesforce org without disrupting end users, saving the client thousands of dollars in licensing fees.
THE CHALLENGE
The client had originally built their access request portal on Salesforce, but the system relied on records stored in a separate AWS database, creating a fragmented architecture that became increasingly difficult to manage. As demand for Autodesk product access scaled significantly over time, the Salesforce-based portal struggled to keep pace. Compounding this, the client was incurring costs on both platforms simultaneously, making the arrangement financially unsustainable.

OUR SOLUTION
Fiduciary Tech built a self-service portal on AWS that enables both internal staff and external partners to request access to Autodesk software and projects. The platform features a fully redesigned user interface that is significantly more intuitive than its predecessor. Beyond access requests, the portal gives administrators visibility into request statuses and the tools needed to troubleshoot requests that fail to update automatically. Project and user management are also handled directly within the portal.
The system cross-references data from external databases to validate and process approval requirements at the point of submission. When no prior approval exists for a user, the system automatically identifies the appropriate approver and routes the request via email. Requesters receive notifications via email so they always know where their request stands in the approval pipeline.
The underlying architecture was designed with scalability at its core, ensuring the system can comfortably handle continued growth in request volume.
KEY FEATURES
• Self-service portal for internal and external Autodesk project access requests
• Integration with associated platforms and automated record creation
• End-to-end request management and approval workflows
GLOBAL IMPACT/RESULTS
• Migrating from Salesforce to AWS delivered measurable gains in system performance and scalability
• Enhanced integration capabilities by leveraging AWS front-end services to connect with third-party tools and systems
• Streamlined approval workflows, significantly reducing manual processing overhead
• Strengthened security posture: external vendors are required to authenticate through their Autodesk accounts via SSO before accessing client projects and company data
• Internal users receive automatic approval when requesting access to projects within the same cost center, eliminating unnecessary friction
TECHNOLOGIES & CAPABILITIES
Route 53 — DNS routing that directs end users to the web portal
Global Firewall — Perimeter security layer that filters malicious traffic and protects the system
Amazon EventBridge — Event bus for orchestrating application workflows
AWS Lambda — Serverless, event-driven compute for processing requests
Aurora PostgreSQL — Managed relational database for storing all application tables
CloudFront Distribution — CDN layer that serves static content from S3 buckets
CONCLUSION
This migration represents more than a platform switch. It is a strategic modernization that puts the client firmly in control of their own infrastructure. By consolidating onto AWS, the client eliminated redundant platform costs, resolved longstanding integration friction, and gained a scalable foundation built to support growing operational demands. With a more secure, intuitive, and automated system now in place, the team is well-positioned to onboard new users and partners efficiently as the business continues to expand.
