Amazon Web Services (AWS) has officially launched AWS Secret Cloud for Industry (ASCI), a groundbreaking managed service allowing cleared U.S. defense contractors and research institutions to run contractor-owned classified workloads directly in the cloud for the first time. The new platform achieved a Provisional Authorization at Impact Level 6 (IL6) from DISA, allowing contractors to bypass the need to build out costly, rigid on-premises infrastructure for Secret-classified operations. To accelerate national security modernization, AWS also rolled out two massive financial programs: the $20 million ASCI Accelerator Initiative to assist defense firms with migration credits over three years, and the $1 billion Intelligence Community Accelerated Modernization Framework (ICAMF) to ease transition costs for the 18 agencies within the U.S. intelligence community through October 2030.
