Amazon Reveals "Thermal Event" as the Cause Behind the May AWS Outage

Amazon has disclosed that the widespread AWS outage affecting sites like Coinbase and FanDuel was caused by a "thermal event resulting in a loss of power" at a single data center in northern Virginia. After overheating hardware prompted a traffic shift, AWS teams managed to restore the cooling systems and kickstart the recovery of impaired resources.
