METADATA-DRIVEN DATA DICTIONARY FOR SCALABLE SALESFORCE GOVERNANCE
OVERVIEW
A global enterprise operating a complex Salesforce platform needed a clear, scalable way for users to understand what hundreds of fields represented across projects, sites, due diligence, and related records. As the platform evolved, inconsistent field usage and limited documentation created friction for reporting, data exports, and day-to-day operations. Fiduciary Tech designed and implemented a metadata-driven data dictionary within the platform, giving all users a centralized, self-service reference for field definitions and usage.
THE CHALLENGE
The Salesforce platform contained hundreds of fields spanning multiple objects—projects, sites, milestones, comments, account types, and due diligence records—but users had no reliable way to understand what each field meant, how it was used, or how it mapped to backend APIs. This lack of visibility caused confusion for both everyday users and power users working with reports or external data systems, increasing reliance on the technical team for clarification and slowing decision-making.

OUR SOLUTION
Fiduciary Tech implemented a centralized attribute framework that acts as the system of record for field metadata across the platform. Each attribute defines what a field represents, where it appears in the UI, and how it maps to Salesforce objects and APIs.
This attribute data powers a custom data dictionary interface built directly into Salesforce, allowing users to search and understand fields in real time. By tying UI presentation, field descriptions, and backend metadata to a single attribute source, the solution ensures consistency while remaining flexible enough to support different project types and evolving requirements.
KEY FEATURES
- • Centralized Attribute Object defining field name, description, section, data type, and object context
• Integrated Data Dictionary UI exposing definitions, values, and API mappings
• Searchable metadata across field names, descriptions, and values
• Scalable architecture where documentation is managed directly as system metadata
GLOBAL IMPACT/RESULTS
- • Established a single source of truth for field definitions
• Reduced dependency on engineering for clarification
• Improved reporting accuracy and data export confidence
• Enabled self-service access to 600+ attributes
